SPOILER- FREE

Marvel’s Thor Ragnarok is the third instalment in the Thor franchise released in October 2017. It seems Thor has done a lot since we last saw him in 2015, but yet he has done nothing. Thor Ragnarok follows the protagonist, as he struggles with his identity after it is stripped as he knows, his special Mjölnir is broken, and his hometown is destined to fall one way or another. Billed as a comedy, follow Thor on his journey to stop Ragnarok and the evil Goddess of Death “Hela” and save Asgard. Ragnarok brings back the characters we love Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Heimdall (Idris Elba), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and the new talent of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Skurge the Executioner (Karl Urban), The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) and Hela (Cate Blanchett)

A brief overview before we get into the spoilers for all you who have yet to see it is that this film is amazing. To say that it is better than the other two films is disrespectful to put it bluntly, it makes it seem that the other two even have anything on this film. Ragnarok is a visual, comedic masterpiece that at times (twice) still manages to add depth and explore certain relationships. A massive con of the film is that the film replaces all emotion or depth with comedy, it will definitely make you laugh but even though it can, won’t make you cry. And that is taking nothing away from the film, because in this day and age you can’t make everyone happy but I can only say that there are two emotional moments in this film, and I don’t think either were meant to be, the first between Loki and Thor, and the second between Thor and Hulk. There is one scene that is supposed to be emotional but it all happens so quickly, that I don’t really have time to process it. The only other issue is with the villain, whilst she is fantastic – her character is a little confusing and not a justice to the fantastic actress playing her. Hela is a million times better than other Marvel characters but not quite great.

Apart from that, the film is honestly flawless, and I often don’t say that, I have a couple other issues like the pacing at the start, Dr Strange, character screen time (Heimdall) and Hela. But, this has to be the funniest film of the year and the cast is absolutely AMAZING. Everyone from Loki and Hulk to newcomers Grandmaster to scene-stealers like Korg are great. BUT, I think the greatest thing about this film is that there are consequences to it. There are shocks and turns that I wasn’t expecting that I will talk about later. But honestly, this is one of the best films of the year and I absolutely recommend it and I give it a 8.6 out of 10 rating an A- [the highest rating I have ever given].
