I have begged my friend to watch The Walking Dead – he said he didn’t want to because he felt like he was only watching it because everyone else did. Eventually he ended up watching 7 seasons in two weeks (he is CRAZY). So I thought I would do something different this time – instead of having a 17 year old boy review movies, you can not be like my friend and get ahead of the game
I don’t want this post to be a generic list of shows to watch which include the usual TV Shows (Game Of Thrones, The Walking Dead). I also don’t want to put TV Shows that I believe the average TV lover has seen and know will be the next great TV Show (these include, Daredevil, Narcos, Stranger Things, Westworld, Mr. Robot, Black Mirror). I want this list to represent 6 shows you would have otherwise unheard of or not thought you would’ve been into.
So here are 6 shows that you really need to be watching before everyone is.
- LINE OF DUTY
OK. Well, this show is on it’s fourth season but Line Of Duty is the second greatest show that I think I have ever seen on BBC Two (The Great British Bake Off being number 1). I can not express how disappointed I am that this show has not received as huge critical acclaim that other BBC shows have. Line Of Duty draws the viewers in by continuously asking more questions, it makes you question who to trust and whether the characters you are watching are actually corrupt. It is a brilliant TV show, that is gripping and is quality on-the edge of your seat television. It shocks, makes you ask question and dare I say it even gives you a little bit of a sob. Most TV dramas have an exceptional first season but the second season seems lacklustre in return, and the one thing that I believe this show does is have a stellar second season and an EXCEPTIONAL third season. I really have to thank BBC. Because of them not once does the TV show feel rushed and the quality never diminishes between the seasons. The BBC did not rush the creators to release the season within the year, we have seen it with some great TV (True Detective), whose first season was so great it meant that their network would give it an impossible task of releasing it within the year. Shows that are similar to Line Of Duty: Luther, Broadchurch, Sherlock
- THE GOLDBERGS
Why is this on the list? I hear you ask, I put it on this list because I don’t think people give it the credit it deserves. People probably think it is a childhood, family-friendly TV show that is the younger brother of sitcoms like Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory, and is in the same calibre as The Middle. (which, by the way: this should totally make your day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIvZyrb984c). The Goldbergs is just fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously and follows the best comedy character since Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory – Beverly. Imagine all of the things you liked in The Big Bang Theory before it started to take itself too seriously and knew it had a loyal fan-base (about Season 5). So when The Big Bang Theory ends (it has to right?), there will be a massive sitcom sized whole for audiences and thats when I think more people will turn to The Goldbergs, leaving you behind. Shows that are similar to The Goldbergs: The Middle, Black-ish, Fresh Off The Boat
- ATLANTA
Atlanta is on this TV list because it has just started and it is clear it is going to be a hit.Atlanta perfectly blends comedy and drama. It is CLEARLY going to be the next hit and is just fantastically written. Donald Glover and his character Troy in Community (along with Abed) were my favourite characters in a sitcom growing up. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzYMI89idEM). So don’t wait until your friends are all talking about it to watch it. START THE CONVERSATION Shows that are similar to Atlanta: Louie
- HAPPY VALLEY
I don’t want to go into too much depth – because this TV Show is simply amazing. I don’t want to spoil anything when I discuss this TV Show, because I think it is best going into not expecting much and then coming out with your brain completely blown. Happy Valley is similar to Line Of Duty in that it has two years to fully develop meaning there is no real difference in quality between the two seasons. Furthermore, it is a TV show that doesn’t get much recognition from audiences but it is on NETFLIX which is why it is lower down on this list. Shows that are similar to Happy Valley: Luther, Fargo, Sherlock
- FARGO
OK, now he’s completely lost it you are probably thinking. Fargo was one of the best TV shows of 2014 and everyone watched it – how could I possible get ahead of the game? Well, that is true – but I bet you didn’t know that there is a second and third season. And the second season is BETTER than the the first. The first season had to compete with True Detective – but where HBO rushed True Detective to release its second season by summer the next year, FX let Fargo take it’s time and this resulted in the best TV show’s second season I think I have ever seen. Eventually, when the third season is released everyone will be watching this – so jump on the train NOW! Shows that are similar to Fargo: True Detective (s1), Happy Valley, Sherlock
- HUMANS
I only know this TV show on Channel 4 in England so I don’t know where you could watch it around the world and that is why it makes the list. Very much like Westworld, it is so intriguing, it makes you question everything. I don’t want to spoil anything else by going into too much depth, but it definitely going to be the future of TV. Although, it already on its second season, I believe you Shows that are similar to: Fargo, Westworld
